Douglas Spratt, MBA., M.Sc., P.Eng., LEEDTM Accredited Professional, Fellow Engineer of Canada

Douglas is a principal of the firm with 37 years of experience as a mechanical and energy engineer. He worked within the Energy Management Division at the University of Alberta Physical Plant back in the 1980’s. It was there that he developed his Masters Thesis on the Dynamic Control of HVAC Systems. This work involved the development of energy management software to dynamically control a building’s thermal systems to optimize energy use. His software was implemented at the University’s Administration Building where savings from his energy strategies were documented and presented at an international conference by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers.

Douglas also worked as a consultant for Alberta’s Ministry of Education, auditing schools across Alberta. While in Alberta, he provided engineering services to commercial, industrial and institutional building clients under his company, Spratt Consulting Services.

Douglas continued his consulting engineering work after moving back to BC in 1990. He has provided engineering services for building owners, managers and architects. Project scope has ranged from small mechanical engineering studies to managing multidiscipline engineering projects up to $70 million.

Douglas’ primary areas of expertise include HVAC and plumbing systems. Douglas has published technical papers both locally and internationally, and has been retained for expert witness work.
